This is a manager level position focused on supporting the business and analytical teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong programming skill set and significant distributed systems expertise. While the company outsources the maintenance of its database, this individual will also be responsible for providing direction to the outsource database and IT providers and leading the overall database systems strategy and execution. The company supports some of the world's largest funds as an outsourced analytics solutions provider. The right candidate will need to operate independently and flexibly, identifying opportunities for insightful analytics and responding rapidly to ad hoc requests. The company is highly entrepreneurial, consistently evaluating different industries and markets for opportunities. Logical, linear thinking, and an ability to communicate rationale for analysis and defense of results will be important.

Responsibilities:

-Engineer a modern data pipeline, to collect, cleanse and process diverse data from internal and external sources
-Develop and document data features to facilitate analytics and model development
-Create highly reusable code modules and packages that can be leveraged across the data pipeline
-Integrate the outcomes as real time data products to elevate our ability to provide enhanced forecasting and pricing of mortality-based investment assets
-Identify and ingest open source as well as proprietary third party data that will extend the Company's ability to perform advanced analytics
-Present results in a professional manner, while communicating and defending methods and logic used
-Create queries, exports, and interfaces to facilitate reporting and analysis across the company
-Manage, oversee and interface with database system vendors and other third party collaborators
-Manage data imports and onboarding of new clients and/or portfolios into the database
-Provide direction around the company's data management procedures and policies

Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics or Applied Math or related field required
-A minimum of 7 years' experience in a technical role, including a minimum of 3 years in a data analysis/data science role required
-Strong programming background in SQL and Python (or similar)
-Expertise in database systems, ETL, data modeling and data governance
-Proficiency in feature engineering (transformation, binning, dimensionality reduction techniques)
-The following would all be considered significant pluses in the ideal candidate:
-Experience working with large datasets; comfortable with big data technologies (Spark, Hive, Hadoop ecosystem)
-Experience with insurance or consumer financial data
-Strong Microsoft Excel skillset including: model building, model optimization, monte carlo modeling, VBA, macros, complex lookups, etc.
