Data Analyst Position Overview:

As Data Analyst, you will play a crucial role in analyzing in-force blocks of business within company mandates, company activities/performance across such mandates, and providing actionable insights that drive growth and improve operational efficiency and the effectiveness of the company commercial proposition to both insurance/reinsurance clients and their policyholders. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about data analysis and can synthesize information across large amounts of data and utilize this knowledge to make thoughtful, commercially driven decisions. A successful candidate will be commercially driven with a track record of value creation through data analytics and a self-starter who enjoys independent work, with minimal supervision, and being part of a small, entrepreneurial team.

Data Analyst Roles and Responsibilities:

1.           Data Analysis:

-Gather, analyze, and interpret large data sets to provide insights on Dochas case manager performance, evaluate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and ensure adherence to both internal and external Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
-Develop and refine KPIs that align with the company's strategic objectives
-Provide actionable recommendations based on analysis to improve business processes, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive growth

2.           Reporting:

-Create and maintain regular reports (using SQL, Power BI, Excel) that track business performance against targets, identifying trends and areas for improvement.

3.           Collaboration:

-Work with cross-functional teams, including client facing case managers, operations, and management, to understand their data needs and deliver insights that support decision-making

4.           Systems and Infrastructure:

-Streamline the process of collection and reporting of data to minimize manual intervention and help scale the business.
-Utilize data management skills to collect, analyze and present data in a structured form, and management information dashboards.
-Systematize and automate solutions for process improvement to increase automation and operations of the Company.

5.           Database Management:

-Take over ownership of internal database built in Microsoft SQL Server.
-Expand, improve and document all aspects of existing data architecture and expand the control framework for data management.
-Work with management to prioritize business and information needs.

6.           Technical Support:

-Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, guiding users through problem resolution
-Collaborate with external IT and development teams to escalate complex issues
-Assist with management of third-party Master Service Provider (MSP)
-Assist with system installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
-Assist with technical onboarding for new team members including licensing requirements

Data Analyst Job Qualifications and Requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, Information Technology, or a related field
-2+ years’ of experience in a business analyst role, preferably within the financial services industry
-Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Power-BI).
-Experience in developing and monitoring KPIs and SLAs.
-Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in an understandable format.
-Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Paul Chatlos joined Smith Hanley in 2013. He is currently the Data Science and Analytics Practice Lead for the East and West Coasts and a Principal of the company. Prior to joining Smith Hanley, he recruited marketing professionals in the pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology industries and also worked in Physician Recruitment. He prides himself on building excellent relationships with both clients and candidates in order to best address their hiring needs and career goals. He also believes that recruiting is finding the best “match” of candidate and opportunity. 

He holds a BS in Psychology from James Madison University. Outside of work, Paul enjoys playing golf regularly and is an avid sports fan.
